Factory expansion set to create up to 170 jobs

Winsford-based Tiger Trailers has started work on a multi-million pound factory expansion which will create up to 170 jobs.

Since 2014, the commercial vehicle body and trailer manufacturer has grown to a more than £30 million-turnover operation, and is now spending £22 million on a new site which to open next year.

Tiger Trailers’ rapid growth led to the company being confirmed as the first trailer manufacturer to become a partner of the Northern Powerhouse.

Part of this commitment includes nurturing young talent in the industry, with the business committing to investing in its own apprenticeship scheme.

The factory expansion project is backed by ongoing funding from NatWest and Lombard to the tune of £2.9 million.

Chris Smith, finance director at Tiger Trailers, said: “The company started with the vision of creating innovative transport products from a Cheshire manufacturing facility.

“Thanks to ongoing funding from NatWest and Lombard, we have realised our vision and rapidly grown to become one of the UK’s leading trailer and vehicle body manufacturers.”

The company is already expanding its team with Tom Stott (pictured above) among the latest new arrivals. The technical sales manager joins the company with eight years of industry experience and a passion for commercial vehicles and manufacturing.

Tom, 24, began his career as an apprentice aged 16, joining the Cartwright Group on the production line, before moving up to become a production planner.

After progressing into an aftersales and warranty role at Cartwright, he took on his first sales position in January last year with Truck Bodies at Schmitz Cargobull.
