Global stage beckons for region

Cheshire and Warrington will showcase its unique investment potential on a global stage when the region returns to the world’s largest property and investment event, MIPIM, next spring.

At a MIPIM 2019 launch event hosted by Knights 1759 in Wilmslow, Victoria Merton, director of corporate affairs at The Peel Group and the chair of the Cheshire and Warrington MIPIM steering group, said that the region is gearing up to send its “biggest and best delegation” yet to the international property festival.

For the first time this year, Cheshire and Warrington has established a private sector-led steering group to help promote the region as a great place to invest and to shape its programme of events at MIPIM Cannes.

MIPIM (Marché International des Professionels d’Immobilier), now in its 30th year, is held annually in Cannes, France and takes place 12-15 March, 2019. This will be the third time that Cheshire and Warrington will exhibit at the flagship festival.

The delegation is being led by the Local Enterprise Partnership, with Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire East Council and Warrington Borough Council, with support from Marketing Cheshire.

Victoria Merton said: “MIPIM Cannes is the world’s premier property event and offers unparalleled opportunity for Cheshire and Warrington to reach a global network of potential new partners.

“The theme this year will be global partnerships – we’re part of the Northern Powerhouse, we’re part of the UK, but MIPIM is a real opportunity to meet people from other cities and other countries. Around 25,000 people will attend MIPIM Cannes, which means everyone is focussed on doing the same thing and that makes international interaction much easier.

“This will be the region’s third delegation and the biggest and best yet, as we build on our experiences and learn from previous years. Our aim is to make sure that the region itself is recognised for new, clean energy technologies for innovation, for its automotive and for it being a place the people want to live work and play.”

For March 2019, Cheshire and Warrington is also expanding its social programme and teaming up with other regions to create events with wider appeal across the North and with business partnerships and supporting the Department of International Trade and the British Property Federation at the UK Pavilion.

Last year more than 20 organisations joined the Cheshire and Warrington delegation to promote their projects and to seek international partnerships and already many have signed up to support the region next March.

Christine Gaskell, chair of Cheshire and Warrington LEP, said: “We have a great story to tell in Cheshire and Warrington with some outstanding projects and a cohort of committed and enthusiastic supporters. MIPIM is about broadening business networks and placing the spotlight on the compelling investment opportunities available within our region.

“The key to Cheshire and Warrington’s success will be achieved through the ongoing collaborative partnership between the private and public sectors. As we prepare for next year’s delegation, we hope more businesses will join us in taking this opportunity and articulating our collective ambition for the region’s future.

“We hope to encourage widespread engagement both from those attending MIPIM and other companies across Cheshire and Warrington who want to support our vision.

“For those who want to join us MIPIM 2019, we offer value for money passes and partnerships. For others, we offer a chance to promote their business and engagement with Cheshire and Warrington in our investment prospectus which will be distributed at MIPIM and throughout the year.”
