Cyclists pedal up a storm for charity

Workers at Ralph Lauren at Cheshire Oaks pedalled up a storm in a two day fundraiser for cerebral palsy charity Stick ‘n’ Step.

A total of 12 team members from the store took turns to cycle over 200 miles and raised more than £700.

Through a number of further fundraising events, staff are hoping to raise £4,500, which is enough to cover the cost of one child’s place at Stick ‘n’ Step for a whole year.

Staff member Josh nominated Stick ‘n’ Step to be a charity partner for the Ralph Lauren store earlier this year. He knew about the charity as his 11-year-old cousin George Shaw has been attending conductive education classes there since shortly before his third birthday.

When George first visited the charity’s Wallasey centre he was unable to walk without a walking frame and could only stand independently for short periods of time. He can now walk, run and jump independently, loves playing football and does not use walking aids.

Abbie Davies, speaking for Ralph Lauren, said: “We are so excited to be working with Stick ‘n’ Step. The charity has an amazing impact on the lives of the children who attend classes there and on their families. Our staff should be very proud of all they have achieved so far towards our fundraising target.”

Janet Ratcliffe, trusts and grants fundraiser for Stick ‘n’ Step, added: “We are very grateful to the energetic staff at Ralph Lauren for this fantastic fundraising effort. Once they’ve got their breath back, I can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store next for us!”

Stick ‘n’ Step offers support services to children with cerebral palsy and their families. The charity provides the children with totally free of charge conductive education sessions, allowing them to gain the skills they need to live independent lives.  Children from 97 families, from across the region, attend these sessions weekly or twice weekly at the charity’s Wallasey and Runcorn centres.
